Un Momento a tu Lado - A moment by your side

y Vicente Piedrahita - Plate Monument to the

Hay miradas que queman al rozarlas,
miradas rozando otras miradas;
palabras que alegran al pronunciarlas
e incógnitas que quedan descifradas.

Hay sueños olvidados en la noche,
sueños destrozados por un reproche;

Disfrutaba vivir siempre apurado
y beberme en un momento la vida
hasta que por mí fuiste querida
y no fui más que un momento a tu lado.

There are poems that awaken passion,
poems that tell the story of love,
and poems the heart conceals
in the deepest chambers of its pain.

There are kisses that uncover affection,
(Pintura del artista ruso Konstantin Razumov)
hidden since the days of childhood,
that ignite when given wholly
to a love with a different “I love you.”

There are glances that burn in their touch,
eyes brushing against other eyes;
words that brighten as they are spoken,
and mysteries that find their answer.

There are dreams forgotten in the night,
dreams broken by a single reproach;
there are scents that make one forget,
fragrances that drift away into the sea.

There are caresses, works of art,
caresses that banish every doubt,
caresses that compel me to kiss you
beneath a soft and silver moonbeam.

There are moments—moments to love,
moments to write poetry,
moments to gaze and to kiss,
moments when I would caress you,
and moments meant to forget
the errors that died with the day.

I once delighted in living in haste,
drinking life in a single moment,
until you became beloved to me—
and I was nothing more
than a moment by your side.

Te quiero - I love you

Te quiero sólo a ti;
mil veces el sendero
recorrí desafiando a mi destino.
Busqué un amor mas vi
mi ilusión de viajero
destrozada por ese mi asesino.

Mas cuando al retirarme
como estrella bajada
del firmamento a mí, graciosa vino...
Eras tú, tú ... y al darme
esa dicha esperada
al fin pude enderezar mi camino.

Sí!, por eso te quiero
con tu blanca cintura
y tus ojos negros, querida mía.
¡Sí!, por eso me esmero
cuando de tu ternura
me refiero en toda mi poesía.

(Pintura del artista ruso Konstantin Razumov)

I love only you;
a thousand times the path
I walked defying destiny.
I sought another love, yet saw
my traveler’s dream
shattered by its assassin.

But when I turned away,
like a star descending
from the heavens, you came to me with grace...
It was you, you—and in granting me
that long-awaited joy,
at last I could set my course aright.

Yes! That is why I love you,
with your slender white waist
and your dark, beloved eyes.
Yes! That is why I strive,
for when I speak of your tenderness,
it fills the whole of my poetry.

No Hagas Caso - Do not listen

Why are you turning away,
your delicate mouth from mine?
Why are you separating,
like the night from the day,
your skin from one who loves you still?

Do not say it—I already know...
I know the reason for your rejection,
but today I will speak it plain.
Please, do not listen
to those who say I never loved you.

You hold my heart,
the highest point of all my love,
which in this moment
is the axis of my soul—
my life, my only ideal, my dream.

El Juego - The play

y jugando un niño tropieza;
hay una caída y nace una mentira;
allí pelean pero luego
todos vuelven al juego.
Corren de un lado y al otro,
dan todos vueltas y uno como loco
embiste a otro como toro.
Nace la jugada y en fulgor
levantan la mirada al sol
y felices anotan el gol.
Contentos terminan la mitad,
mas entre ellos no hay enemistad
y como en todo juego
los ganadores cantan luego:
"¡Como nosotros ganamos
el refresco nos pagaron!"
¡Cómo me encanta verlos jugar,
cómo me encanta verlos ganar,
y cómo me encanta oirlos cantar!...
aunque luego al recordar
nostalgia siento sin querer
por lo que he perdido al crecer.

They are stars I have not seen once more
when the sky darkens in its moment,
and the moon that joins into the torment
to follow me each night and drive me mad.

There are memories forcing me to return
to the shattered love I mourn today,
and to the rushing thunder of the wind
that carries off my tears as they fall.

It goes on counting the months of your farewell,
those I keep asking with a living voice,
the places where I wander searching you—

with the possibility of finding you,
that upon my face you might remember,
so I too could die still loving you.

Posibilidad - Possibility
