Suplicio - Torment

(Graphic representation of Guayaquil in 1760 based on the plans of Ramón García and León de Pizarro and Francisco Requenam appreciating the San Francisco Javier school and the Jesuit church in front of the canchones of the food market, current site where the Municipal Palace is located)

How beautiful it would be to walk with you,
and forget the torture that cruelly kills me;
or beneath a bright star shining as we embrace,
you would dream the dream that I am dreaming!

If you would give me just a smile,
and gently, my love, touch my hand,
I would know the pain would soon turn to breeze,
that loving you in silence would not be in vain.

If only you understood the cause of my torment,
compassion would no longer beg you;
if only your love would give me a sign,
I would find a fortune in kissing you.
