Te quiero sólo a ti;

mil veces el sendero

recorrí desafiando a mi destino.

Busqué un amor mas vi

mi ilusión de viajero

destrozada por ese mi asesino.

Mas cuando al retirarme

como estrella bajada

del firmamento a mí, graciosa vino...

Eras tú, tú ... y al darme

esa dicha esperada

al fin pude enderezar mi camino.

Sí!, por eso te quiero

con tu blanca cintura

y tus ojos negros, querida mía.

¡Sí!, por eso me esmero

cuando de tu ternura

me refiero en toda mi poesía.

I walked defying destiny.

I sought another love, yet saw

my traveler’s dream

shattered by its assassin.

But when I turned away,

like a star descending

from the heavens, you came to me with grace...

It was you, you—and in granting me
